Why was I here again? Oh..right..it was Alfred's idea. After being together for long, it wasn't until nearly a month ago he got up and said to enter. It wasn't my intentions, but it most likely seemed to be his. Then a few nights ago, he went full out a said it was over, but said he didn't want it to. He went on about how 'He needed to be the hero' and 'hero's need to take care of others, not the other way around.' I didn't believe the whole 'hero' thing, but it still hurt a ton. Like I had just been slapped across the face. Finally, the day arrived. The Selection. The day a special group of eight girls, would compete for the heart of the wealthy prince Arthur. Like I said, it wasn't my intentions. I wanted to stay and marry Alfred..but nuh-uh. I sighed and rubbed my forehead of sweat as the announcer came onto the stage. After a barely night's sleep, I felt exausted. If only I could have stayed in bed and slept. And dreampt of Alfred. Wait. No more Alfred! This was silly, I needed to move on.
"Good afternoon everyone!" the announced greeted with a smile. "I know why your all here!"
Keep it together __________. You won't get chosen anyway. I swear the whole country-or even more-signed in. It was crazy the small amount of girls were chosen. The past years there were up to 35 or even 60. Not anymore. I guess Arthur had a picky taste in girls. I wouldn't be surprised if they all looked, and acted the same. I bet he'd choose one of their names out of a hat to decide who he'd marry. He always looked to tense on camera. Never smiled, it was always a smirk or a light hint, but never a real smile. I wonder what he did with all his time in the palace.
"This year..over three thousand girls entered the Selection! Now only eight out of them all are chosen!"
Wow, that was more than I thought. I glanced to the left to see a pretty young girl standing their with crossed fingers. I could imagine her toes crossed in her shoes aswell.
"And, now the time you've been waiting for! Over a month to decide! Poor Prince Arthur eh?"
A few giggles came from the audience at the sound of his name. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. I had a feeling I'd be the last on the list they'd care about. I liked (hobby) and (other hobby), it probably wasn't something a Prince/future king would want.
"Lucky girls they are! The prince looked over each entery carefully, and chose which ones to look at even further! Here they come!"
A letter was passed to him, and the announcer cleared his throat. I always wanted to be in the palace though.
"First we have..Elizabeta Héderváry!"
Since the girl who was chosen didn't live in our area, she came upon a large screen, being filmed in her country. She went along her stage, with the wind blowing her long brown hair. She was pretty. She greeted the announcer in her country before waving to her audience and blowed a few kisses.
"I can see why she was chosen!" our announcer laughed. "Next we have.."
The girl to my left was still crossing her fingers.
"Lili Zwingli!"
Once again, she appeared on the screen in front of us. She looked rather shy, had short blond hair,with a pretty purple ribbon in it. No doubt she would be chosen. She was perfect. Small, quiet, most likely wouldn't make erros. But how would I know, I would most likely not be chosen. I didn't have any queen statures at all anyway.
"Alrighty then!" the announcer cried.
"Our third chosen girl is Natalia Arlovskaya!"
She appeared on the screen looking rather gloomy. Maybe she was like me, except actually had a chance. The announcer began to call off the other names faster, since everyone was eager and most likely going to throw rotten tomatoes at him if he didn't.
"Our fourth chosen is Bella Hendrickx!"
"Fifth is Katyusha Braginskaya!"
She looked nice. She had large brests of course, which all seemed to make sence. On the other hand, she looked nicer than most of the other girls. Maybe she knew Lili.
"Sixth is Michelle Sey!"
She was rather pretty. I liked the way her hair was in two low pigtails with red ribbons instead of ponytail holders. It was a classic idea.
"Second last chosen is Tina Lin!"
A pretty girl dressed in pink quickly trotted across the stage. She seemed nice too. I would have liked to meet her.
Finally the last name about to be called.
I seen the girl to my left still hoping and praying. Maybe she would, maybe she wouldn't. It was all up to Arthur, and he seemed to have had a peculiar taste in girls. Maybe he didn't look at THEM, but their strengths and weaknesses. Maybe he looked at their hobbies, and could relate. Maybe it was their looks..
"Last but certainly not least.." the announcer spoke 'certainly' with a high smooth voice. Last name to be called.
"Our last chosen girl is _(f/n)___ __(l/n)__!"
My eyed widened, and my cheeks began to heat up with everyone looked at me. Their faces...seemed...deadly. Talked about if looks could kill..
I scooted up to the stage and shook hands with a announcer.
"Good luck honey, you'll need it." he whispered in my ear before pushing me along the stage. I smiled and waved before nearly fainting.

~~~~~~~
               I didn't even have time to pack. My mother already had certain things from them packed and ready to take with me. I didn't need any extra clothes, since everything was going to be prepared when I got there. I smiled, thinking maybe I had a chance. Then, seeing Alfred standing with Gwen just before I left..made he feel heartbroken all over again. Maybe he never did like me..he was just using me..
"Your ______?"
My head perked up before noticing a tall girl standing before me. From the looks of her, and her face on screen, I could tell it was none other than Natalia.
All I could do was nod.
She snickered before pushing herself in front of me and making her way towards the plane. Since our area's must have been close together, we had to take the same airplane. I had taken a train nearly five hours to get here.
"Your Natalia right?"
She gave a wicked smile and nodded.
"Thats me."
She seemed so...full of herself. I didn't bother to say anything back just for my sake. If anything I might want to punch her, but not right now. Nothing bad enough had happened except for nearly pushing me over.
After getting smothered in camera men, and reporters, I was so glad to talk to the press and give shouts to my family members. Natalia on the other hand just smiled her devious little smile and made her way without a word.
We finally boarded the plane, when another girl came aboard. She was Lili, I could tell from her face on the screen. She scooted in next to me-obviously not wanting to sit near Natalia-and we began to chat about our like and why we thought we were chosen.
"It's strange." she said. "I though I was to small to be chosen."
"Nonsence!" I replied with a warm smile. "You were bound to be chosen! Your so nice!"
She giggled.
"Thank you! I bet you were chosen for your looks!"
I couldn't help but blush at her comment and fixed my hair a little.
"You think so?"
Lili gave a cute smile before nodding.
"And your nice too!"
"I bet I was chosen for best beauty. And charming personality." Natalia laughed. Lili and I rolled out eyes. By then we were finally on our way to the palace.
~~~~~~~~~~

            All the other girls were dressed to nice, I couldn't help but feel a little emberassed. I was wears PANT'S for goodness sake. They were nice riding pants and matching boots. My mother bought them just for the 'fun' of it, and she thought I looked good in them. I was wearing a baggy (color) sweater with a fuzzy hood. I looked like commoner in front of all the girls with short but nice looking dresses and makeup on. The only other I could see who didn't look like the rest was Elizabta, who also wore dark pants, and boots, but they didn't look like mine. They looked..better.
"All right girls! Time to go in and watch the report! Further details will be explained later!" a large older woman scamperd out of the gates of the castle. "We're running a little late.." she explained before ushering each girl inside.
We all took seats around the large tv in a nicely lit room. Within moments of the tv being turned on, our faces began to flash around on the screen. Lili-whom beside me-held my hand because she was so excited. I couldn't help but smile to her.
"Here are our lovely ladies from this year's selection!" a nice older looking man came upon the screen. "Aren't they gorgeous?"
The man sitting beside him laughed.
"Indeed they are! Each one of them also has fans! Many people are aboring this years batch of girls! More than we've ever seen before!"
So many laughs came after, while our faces flashed upon the screen over and over again. I was nervous. I didn't want to see my face up there. I was so much...more different..I wonder why Arthur chose me..
"I like the way Katyusha strides along the stage during her entrance!" the older man smiled before adding; "She's my personal favorite."
"How about Natalia? She's got in goin on!"
Natalia gave a smile before flipping her hair behind her shoulders.
Suddenly what we all heard shocked us..especially me.
"But not as amazing as __(f/n)__ __(l/n)__ who was seen smiling at being so social towards reporters and camera men! They say that's a quality that Arthur is looking for in a young woman! Kind and outgoing!"
All eyes suddenly turned to me. I felt my face begin to heat up, and almost wanted to dart out of the room and hide somewhere.
I could tell that most of the girls in this room, already wanted me gone.

~~~~~~
                 That night I could hardly sleep. I still felt worried, and nearly sick to my stomach. We were all going to meet and see Prince Arthur tomorrow, and most of the girls wanted to faint, or squealed to much it hurt my ears. I could tell they were more excited then I was. Okay..A LOT more excited then I was. I was still trying to forget Alfred..and the whole thing that happened between us. It was upsetting, and I had to move on. I began to tear up at the thoughts. I felt like he actually loved me. To think, I was such a fool.
Feeling even more clouded, I got up from my bed and made my down the castle corridor. It was so dark I could hardly see, and not a sound shool through the dense air. I need to breathe. Not castle air..fresh air. I needed to be outside. As I made my way through the halls, hoping to find a balcony or something, I ran into a few guards.
"You should be in bed." one of them replied with a slight anger in his voice.
"I need to go outside."
They didn't seem to care.
"You shouldn't be allowed out here."
"I need to go outside!"
One of them reached for my arm, but I stepped back.
"Miss, you shouldn't be out here-"
"I-I-"
I felt my whole heard begin to pound. Seeing this was enough. I raced backward, and down the hall to get away from them. After making my way around the corner, I bumped into someone and toppled back. I nearly screetched, seeing the guards again, but felt a strong hand grasp my wrist.
"What are you doing?!"
I looked up to see none other than the prince. His emerald green eyes peirced mine at first, but seeing the pain in mine, he loosened.
"Sir, me must take her back to her room."
"There will be no such thing!" the prince repiled.
"But..sir.."
"That's an order! Now leave!"
Within seconds the guards made their way around, and back to their posts.
"Sorry my dear are y-"
"I'm NOT your dear." I replied harshly, whipping your hair back. "I'm ________."
The prince was almost taken back by our outburst.
"S-sorry..Ms. ________." he said. "Are you alright?"
He almost seemed...scared. I then realized I had just shouted at the prince! The future king..the man who you were 'trying' to win his heart.
"Nono-" you said with a frown. At first you were going to say sorry..but seeing the prince nervous made you feel better.
"I'm awfully clouded." I said feeling my head. "I need fresh air."
Arthur instantly wrapped an arm around my waist, and began to pull me along.
"What are you doing." I aksed bluntly.
"You need fresh air. Or do you need a massage? Or a goat?"
I laughed.
"A goat?"
"Well, it seems to me you'd ask for anything right now."
I gave him a weak smile.
"A goat wouldn't be the top of my list."
"Well, you never know."
The prince led my into the garden, and helped me onto a bench, near a small waterfall.
"Why are you up so late?" I asked, not even bothering to remember he was still the prince.
"Couldn't sleep." he said. "Nervous."
"Nervous?" I asked, stretching my arms. "Whatever for?"
"I'm meeting eight girls tomorrow, in which one of them will become my wife. Wouldn't you be nervous?"
"I would never have eight girls come to house and have to choose one of them to be my wife." I laughed again. He then smiled, seeming to have liked my joke.
"Your very witty _________."
At first, I thought he meant that in a bad way, so I fought back.
"You not very prince like, Arthur."
He didn't seem taken back. He seemed rather..calm about it. Even when I just called him Arthur, and not 'Prince Arthur.'
"I don't see myself as a prince either."
I felt my jaw open slightly. You never imagined getting this far into a conversation with none  other than the prince himself. To think..all the other girls would be so jealous..
"You know.." Arthur began, picking himself a pretty blossom of the large cherry blossom tree that grew just beside the bench. "I can keep the garden open for you..so you may enter it whenever you like."
I thought about it for a moment.
"I don't need anything from you." I finally managed to spit out. Arthur smild lightly, before shoving some of my (h/c) hair behind my ear and placing the cherry blossom flower in my hair.
"Well, you obviously need to be out here. Forgive me for being to nice to you."
As he turned to walk away, I grabbed his coat and tried to pull him back.
"Shouldn't I have a late night kiss?"
He looked at me with wide eyes, before laughing.
"If that's what you want, love."
"I'm not your love."
He bent down and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"How's that then hm?"
You sighed and looked into his eyes again.
"Better than I thought it be."
He seemed to like my silly little cracks, because he couldn't stop smiling.
"Are you always this nice Arthur?"
He straightened his tie, and cleared his throat.
"Not often. Only considering your not the bloody frog Francis, or Alfred."
Alfred? I thought, staring into space. Maybe he was talking about a different Alfred. I didn't want him on my mind now anyway.
"And since we only just met. I'll give you a chance."
He bowed and kissed my hand before making his way back into the castle, leaving me on the bench.
When he was nearly inside, and turned and gave me a small smile.
"I would prefer it if you didn't tell anyone we were out here okay? I'm not supposed to meet you until tomorrow!"
With that, I smiled again.
"I won't tell."
"Good! Thanks, love!"
There he went on the 'love' thing again. I sighed in frusteration, then began to shake my head and laugh. I actually couldn't wait to see him tomorrow.
